Navel piercing

It is a semi-quickly healing piercing with usually little complications of belly button piercings. They tend to heal like an ear piercing without little rejection and migration, but at the same time, you may encounter the healing process as more like a surface piercing with the rejection and migration risks. When you get a belly button piercing, it is essential that you look after it properly to prevent it from becoming infected. This is especially the case just after you have had it done. Ideally the person who performed the piercing should already have advised you on how to look after your piercing now that it has been done.

Belly button piercing aftercare tips!

In fact this aftercare is just to prevent the piercing parts from infection. It is extremely unpleasant and it can be really painful too. Following are some tips to avoid this.

1. Use mild antibacterial soap each day!
Using a mild antibacterial soap on your piercing every day will gently cleanse the area and keep it protected from infections.

2. Use a salt solution on the piercing daily!

Using a salt solution may sound a little uncomfortable but it can really help you to keep the area clean especially if you do this each day will really being a help. It is so simple to create your own solution by mixing a gallon of boiled water to 4 teaspoons of non iodized sea salt. Just soak a little cotton wool in the solution and then hold it over your piercing for a few minutes each day. Again this will keep it free from any infection. But remember the salt should be sea salt instead of taste salt.

3. Keep the belly ring clean!

Soaking your belly ring in a saline solution once the piercing has healed is a good way to keep the piercing clean. However you should not do this until you are sure that the piercing is actually healed as otherwise it could damage the skin.

Overall keeping the piercing clean and giving it time to heal is essential if you want to enjoy the piercing. If you were to develop an infection then you would have gone through the piercing for nothing and you would suffer quite badly from it too.

Aftercare DOs and DON’Ts!

DOs with a new belly botton piercing:

1. Wear loose fitting clothing that allows the piercing to breath- cotton works best.

2. Make sure your hands are clean.

3. Do use a new Dixie cup and Q-Tip each time you clean.

4. Ask your piercer if you have any problems or questions.

DON’Ts with a new belly botton piercing·

 1. Don’t use any type of ointment on the piercing- to include A&D, bacitracin, Neosporin, bactine- because it can smother a piercing.

2. Don’t use hand sanitizer, Dial soap, or peroxide as they are all too harsh for a piercing and can cause irritation.

3. Don’t wear tight fitting clothing that restricts the breathing of the piercing.

4. Don’t touch your piercing for any reason other than to clean it.

5. Don’t change the jewelry until you are absolutely healed. The best thing to do is to return the piercer to make sure it’s ok to change it and/or to change it for you. It’s, also, goo to buy the new jewelry from your piercer, so that you know you are getting high quality jewelry.

6. Don’t wear heavy barbells or barbells with dangles (things that hang) for extended periods of times. Dangles can catch on belts, pants, shirts, etc. which will irritate the piercing. Heavy jewelry will pull on the piercing because of the weight, which will again, irritate it. If you want to wear something gaudy and “blink blinking’” to “club” that’s fine, as long as you put a normal, light-weight piece of jewelry when you get home.

7. Don’t go into a pool, hot tub, ocean, lake, or any other body of water. It is unsanitary and having a healing piercing submerged in unclean water is bound to cause you irritation.

8. Don’t use a tanning bed with a healing piercing.
